Under the Sea

Série: Les Poissons

You can tell it is still summer and it is hot down here. My brain is melting. I am not sure if the culprit is age or heat. In any case my painting is definitely affected my the temperature and humidity increase. The sad part is that the forecast is not showing signs for something different. The good part is that I am going to be on the road for most of late summer so we should see my art taking a turn (or not).

This little fish (12"x12") painted on wood with some collage is part of a bigger series called Under the Sea. I love the bright colors and direct stare that are inviting you to follow him/her in the coolness of the ocean depths.

C'est toujours l'été ici et ça se voit. Il fait bien chaud. J'ai la cervelle qui fond comme glace au soleil. La chaleur ou même l'âge peut en être la cause mais ce qui est sûr c'est que la température ambiante et l'humidité affecte ma peinture. La mauvaise nouvelle c'est que la météo ne prévoit aucune différence pour les semaines qui viennent. La bonne nouvelle c'est que je serai par monts et par vaux pour la fin de l'été et espère ainsi voir ma peinture prendre un nouveau virage (ou pas).

Ce petit poisson (20cm sur 20cm) est peint sur bois. Il fait partie d'une série titrée Sous l'Océan. J'adore ses couleurs vives et son oeil franc qui nous invite à le suivre dans la fraîcheur des profondeurs de la mer.

These 2 quotes are a perfect illustration of my week. The first one expresses my eagerness for poetry that I try to express in my painting. The second reminds me that my sense of humor might not be understood by everyone.

Here is another bird of my summer series. Wolfe Gallery has several of them, if you are around DeLand,  and there are more to come in many media, shape and sizes in my studios. Come visit and chose one of them to sing in color for you.

Ces deux citations illustrent parfaitement ma semaine. La première exprime mon attirance pour la poësie que j'espère montrer dans ma peinture. La seconde me rappelle que mon sens de l'humour n'est pas forcément au goût de chacun s'il n'est pas compris.

Voici un autre de mes oiseaux de l'été. La Galerie Wolfe à DeLand en présente plusieurs si vous êtes dans le coin. Et il y en a plusieurs qui ornent mes studios. Venez en choisir un.

We are the gods now

Sometimes, it is important to thing outside the box, get out of our comfort zone and all these clichés that give us some incentive to think ahead of us, or just to think. Today is one of those days.

This week, I will not share a painting with you, I will share a video. It is not mine and I have nothing to do with the making of it. It was posted on FaceBook by Matt Menezes, a former student of mine who is putting his legs where his heart is. You should follow him in The North from the Saddle.

I recommend you to listen to the following young man, Jason Silva, when he gave a talk in Australia for the conference on Dangerous Ideas. His passion is contagious, his optimism inspiring. I do believe that the Arts and Sciences have a life together. Listen to him:

Parfois il faut sortir des sentiers battus et se lancer dans des endroits bien différents afin de trouver la force et la motivation de penser par delà nos habitudes.

Cette semaine, j'ai choisi de ne pas montrer une peinture. Je veux partager cette vidéo avec vous. Elle n'est pas mienne et je n'ai rien à voir dans sa création, mais je pense que nous devons tous ouvrir un oeil dans cette direction.  Un ancien étudiant (Matt Menezes, qui vit ce qu'il prêche dans The North from the Saddle) l'a postée sur FaceBook.

Je sais que c'est en anglais et beaucoup de vous auront du mal à comprendre. Essayez d'en trouver la version en français si possible. Ce jeune homme, Jason Silva, est contagieux par sa passion et son optimisme. Il a présenté ce topo en Australie en Mai dernier lors d'une conférence au titre intrigant: De Dangereuses Idées. This Friday night, July 26th 2013, it is Art Walk in Sanford. 
I am the featured artist at Gallery on First and I will be presenting a lot of new work.

Vendredi soir, le 26 Juillet 2013, c'est Art Walk à Sanford, Floride.

Je suis l'artiste du mois à la Galerie de Jeanine Taylor et je présente mon nouveau travail.

This painting was completed at The White House of Orlando in front of a live audience. 
It celebrates the work done by Doctors without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) around the world, a humanitarian organization I admire. 
It is a colorful dream of a world without wars and inequalities.

Ce tableau a été complété à la Maison Blanche de Orlando devant un public. 

Cette colombe célèbre le travail fait par Médecins Sans Frontières tout autour du monde.

J'admire le dévouement de ces hommes et femmes qui font leur possible pour apporter un peu d'espoir à ceux qui en ont si peu. Cette peinture est un rêve en couleur pour un monde sans conflits et inégalités.

Come to Sanford for a glass of wine and see all the new work. There will be Sangria and Madeleines for the courageous ones who will brave the elements, since we know it will rain. It is Florida after all.

This week I let the little girl in me dream while having fun.

Ni peur, ni hésitation, ni culpabilité. Je me suis laissée guider par cette fille si positive, si heureuse et généreuse.

Using acrylic on a black gessoed canvas, we use chalk to draw, yes, simple white black board chalk, and painted like coloring. When the coloring was done, a simple wet rag removes the chalk et voilà.

On a utilisé la peinture acrylique sur une toile couverte de peinture noire et on a dessiné notre sirène à la craie, oui, simple craie des cours de récré, que l'on a simplement coloriée. Coloriage fini, il suffit d'un chiffon mouillé pour ôter la craie et voilà.

I have made 2 other mermaids as presents to some of my young friends around. I will probably not do more of them, but they might reappear in a corner here and there to salute my friend Shari and thank her for her happy art and her generous soul.

J'ai fait 2 autres sirènes pour des cadeaux à quelques jeunes amies du coin. Je n'en ferai certainement pas d'autres, mais elles risquent de réapparaître ici ou là en honneur de mon amie Shari pour la remercier de son amitié et de son âme si généreuse.

I am not on vacation but the inspiration that is supposed to find me while working (according to the great Pablo) is not reaching me much these days. Lots of thinking, down times. Would it be the heat? Perharps.
That must explain this yellow spot of mine.

Je ne suis pas en vacances mais l'inspiration qui vient en travaillant (d'après ce qu'en aurait dit le grand Pablo) me fait un peu défaut ces jours-ci. Beaucoup de réflexion, de temps morts. La chaleur? peut-être.
Ça doit être la raison pour ce point jaune.

In France and in the United States, we have the same national colors. We also share the same aspirations and hopes for equality, fraternity, and liberty. As a national of both nations, I regularly wonder if we still live by these principles, do we still respect them? This flying bird is to remind us of the principles that started both our nations or at least the constitutions under which both our countries live. In these days, it is so important for me to remember what we are all about. Is this bird flying over our heads to celebrate or to remind us of what we have and what we do with what we have.

La France et les Etats-Unis ont les mêmes couleurs sur leur drapeau et nos pays partagent les mêmes aspirations et espoirs pour la liberté, l'égalité et la fratenité. En tant que citoyenne de ces deux pays, je me pose régulièrement la question de savoir si nous vivons toujours selon ces principes, si nous respectons ces aspirations? Cet oiseau en vol est là pour nous rappeler les principes sur lesquels nos deux pays ont été fondés. En ces temps de difficulté, il est important de nous rappeler pourquoi nous sommes là. Est-ce que cet oiseau vole au-dessus de nos têtes pour fêter ce que nous avons ou pour nous aider à nous remettre en question?
